Tuesday I came home from work for lunch and found this imposing face staring back at me through the living room window. It doesn't matter how many times you've see a hawk perched in a tree just outside your window, it still catches your breath. It's even better when he cooperates by sitting tight until you grab the camera...

An immature Red-shouldered Hawk looks for lunch...while I eat mine. |

...shooting through my living room window didn't disturb this guy. He continued to eye the ground below, looking for something to eat. |

...it's never good to be on the receiving side of that glare. (This fellow went away empty-taloned, though. Nothing stuck around for his lunch party.) |
...it feels good to blog again. Injury, illness and workload have kept me from the birds and other creatures of the woods for too long. I'm tired of that! Bring on the birds!

Glad to see you're back, Kelly
Lovely photos.....you had a fine guest for your lunch.
Is this the one you saw yesterday while we were talking? Excellent shots! (as always)
Hi Kelly. What a fabulous visitor and super shots.
Best wishes from FAB and Anita.
Hello Kelly,
What a great shots!!
So amazing how you've photographed this fantastic bird. Well done!!
Many greetings,
Marco
Good to hear that you are on the mend and getting back to birding Kelly.
Kelly, I was so glad to see your post. I've missed your beautiful pictures and am so sorry to hear you have had some health problems.
Your hawk looks a lot like one I recently posted, but I wasn't sure what kind it was. I thought maybe it was a Red Shouldered Hawk, because all I could see of it's tail was white. If you have time I would appreciate if you would look at my blog and tell me what you think, because you are certainly more knowledgeable than I am. Thanks.
What a lovely surprise visitor. Great photos.
Welcome back! I hadn't realized you'd been injured/ill; I'm glad you've gotten better. We have a Red-shouldered living in the Dykeman Spring Nature Park, and he lets loose with that incomparable yell every now and then.
I think I had one in my back yard today - watched him watch the birds and squirrels… fascinating. Your photos are so much better though.
Fantastic photos of the hawk! I think you can be happy he didn't find his lunch and want to sit and eat it while you were eating yours. I know it would make me lose my appetite!
Glad you are well again and feeling like blogging. I always love seeing your photos and drawings!
Welcome back! I'm so glad you are well.
Happy Valentine's Day!
Hugs,
Lois
So glad to see you back again! I'm down to blogging/commenting about once or twice a week. I just have other things to do it seems! Nice Hawk shots too!!
Beautiful shots, dear Kelly.
Hope all is fine over there. Abrazos.
Kelita, glad you are feeling better. We watched the interview, very interesting, well done, congrats. Love
Wonderful picture. We had a large red shouldered hawk sitting on our garden arch in the snow (NC) the other day. He was amazing but couldn't get a photo.
Hello .. Very good pictures .. Good work .. Regards
so lovely to have you back!
your friend is beautiful. my sense is that he found lunch elsewhere...
your photos are gorgeous, i could not tell that they were taken through a window.
Your photos are always amazing.
You are absolutely right. Every close encounter with a raptor is very special. Red-shouldered Hawk is quite uncommon here, but in a nearby town (Hawkesville - appropriate huh?) an adult bird showed up each winter for eleven straight years. This year it fail to appear and I fear it may simply have come to the end of its life, but it sure brought a lot of pleasure to a lot of birders.
A magnificent bird!
Great Shots Kelly :)
