That is so funny! I so miss seeing my State Bird while drinking my coffee in the morning on the patio. Out here it is only sea gulls, pelicans, and fly fish.
Thank you for dropping by and commenting! ...isn't he hysterical! I couldn't believe it when I was photographing him. Oh my gosh...he's actually trying to hide from me! I've never seen a bird do that before. He hung there in his "hidden" state for a few more seconds until I walked on, and he flew off.
I hand hold the camera for all my photos (I used to use a monopod or tripod for distance and macro, but the VR lenses don't seem to require it). I crop the images down in Aperture (I'm a Mac).
The Story Behind "Red and the Peanut"
Red and the Peanut is named after my first bird memory. When I was about six, I was at my Great Aunt Mary's house and she was telling me about Red and the peanut. "Red" was a Northern Cardinal that had trained Aunt Mary to feed it peanuts on demand. Since Aunt Mary's "Red" started it all, what better name could I choose?

Ha! Love this post Kelly! What beautiful, clear photos of that cardinal!! They seem to be a deeper red this time of year.
Heh, heh! Like little kids who hide behind their hands because they think that if they can't see you then you can't see them. Good shots!
Cute Kelly.... I love the color of the cardinals --but they cannot hide from much of anything... ha
LOVE the photos.
Have a great weekend.
Hugs,
Betsy
Love it! He's so gorgeous, and your photos are soooo good. Like the commentary too!
Too funny!

What a cute series. I don't think he could EVER hide enough with that gorgeous red outfit!
:)
Lovely shots! Cardinals are so beautiful!
We have a pair that hangs around the yard, and it's so nice to hear the male singing his song.
: )
Kind of a game of peek a boo.
So cute! I love cardinals--they have so much charm. They need to work on their camouflage abilities though!
lol.
I can just imagine those words going through his head.
Too funny! Good thing for us they don't know they're bright red!
great series! made me LOL!
okay. i had just been 'visiting' but i'm hooked and have to follow you now... :)
your photos are wonderful, how fun. Also the colors you captures,,, wow!
Clever bird!
Great pictures, and that really sounds like a Cardinal. Either they have extra good eyesight or they are more camera/people shy than most birds.
Ha, ha! As if with those bright red feathers there's anywhere he could hide!
