"The Little Beach Sanderling"

BY the beach border, where the breeze
Comes freighted from the briny seas,
By sandy bar and weedy rock,
I frequent meet thy roving flock;
Now hovering o'er the bending sedge,
Now gather'd at the ocean edge;
Probing the sands for shrimps and shells,
Or worms marine in hidden cells,
A restless and inconstant band,
Forever flitting o'er the sand.

I bet they're har to photograph! Need a fast lens. That's a pretty cool poem that describes them too!

Yes, he definitely is flitting over the sand. Must be in a real hurry. Very nice shot--but when aren't your shots phenomenal!!

Nice catch! Those things are amazingly fast and darn difficult to capture without blur!

I love watching Sanderlings, as they run from here to there and back again...so cute and intent on every little teeny piece of flotsam that might taste good.Lovely photo!! You've captured the intensity of the hunt perfectly!

Great composition in that photo--makes you feel the bird's energy. I love that poem as well.

Nice shot! Don't you just adore these little birds? I finished a piece last week of three Sanderlings running across a beach--pop over and check it out if you haven't seen it yet.

...thanks, everyone! I'm the same...I love watching them dart back and forth with the waves. Happy, happy...and hard workers too. I loved this photo because he reminds me of a running back...I can totally see a small football shell tucked under that wing! :-)
