The Story Behind "Red and the Peanut"
Red and the Peanut is named after my first bird memory. When I was about six, I was at my Great Aunt Mary's house and she was telling me about Red and the peanut. "Red" was a Northern Cardinal that had trained Aunt Mary to feed it peanuts on demand. Since Aunt Mary's "Red" started it all, what better name could I choose?

Lovely painting, and a lovely observation about those cranes—I live in a area where hundreds of Sandhill Cranes winter, and I've never noticed the heart shape of their head markings. Thanks for showing this off to such a great effect!

Sandhill cranes are some of the largest birds in North America and have a wingspan of six to eight feet across, allowing them to fly and soar up to 100 miles in a single day in their quest for food. Huge V-shaped flights of sandhill cranes plying the skies provide a thrilling sight for wildlife viewers. When standing on the ground, adult sandhills can reach six feet tall.
