Paintings 25, 28 and 29 - Studies of a Female Black and White Warbler

I love Black and White Warblers and see and hear them a lot on the Little Miami Trail. They haven't arrived yet, though, but I keep watching for them. These studies are from a bird I saw at Clear Creek Metropark in Hocking Hills (southeastern Ohio) last July. I hope to go back there this summer. I loved my time there and saw so many cool birds, moths, and butterflies.

These paintings are part of the 100 Paintings in a Year Challenge.

Hi Kelly,
Wow you are really talented!! I love the second one a lot, but all fo them are splendid!

Chris...I don't know about talent, but it's a great way to express my love of the bird. A lot of study and observation goes into a painting, and I feel like I know the bird better because of it. Thank you!!

Beautiful! I have watercolour classes at Uni every Thursday afternoon now and with the Summer Show fast approaching it's a lovely way to release the stress :).

Good work, Kelly!

I have some shots I took of a Chipping Sparrow singing away in a tree this afternoon that I need to edit. He was really performing!

Adorable! I love Black-and-whites too, and am lucky to have them year-round where I live! Bravo, too, for managing to capture their mega-complex plumage in watercolors; I'm in awe!

Nice work, Kelly. I like these and the two in the last post. Good for you for working out of your comfort zone. That is the only way to grow.

So pretty!
Your little bird was a good model for you, too! I love them all!
I agree with your insight about observation being so important, maybe more than talent. (although you are so very talented!)

I hope you know how talented you are. These are beautiful. If only I could have the patience to create such a thing. I think it is wonderful that you can sit quietly and create a beautiful thing that can last a lifetime. Thanks for sharing. Carol

Hi Kelly,
I love water colors and yours are so nice! You really will get to know your birds as you complete your 100 wc challenge! What other birds will you include in your study?
A very nice post!! So gifted! ;-)

These are just great Kelly.
You have a definite style to your painting now and I can look at a painting and guess that its yours. This must mean something. I mean, well you can tell a "Monet" a mile off.

Kelly, You just painted my all time favourrite NA bird and depicted it just as I remember them. There's a photo of one on my blog from Ontario many years ago.

Thanks, everyone!!! Black and White Warblers are possibly my favorite warbler. I don't know why, but I love them. I hear them a lot on the Little Miami Trail and see them too. I hope they get here soon. I didn't get to check the trail today because of the rain. Maybe this week they will arrive!
