White Ibises at Pinckney Island National Wildlife Refuge (near Hilton Head Island, SC)

Birding Hilton Head Island and Pinckney Island NWR…continued from Friday's Green Heron post.
This muddy little alcove offered fantastic views of the Ibises, and I was amazed at their beauty. I’m sure if you live in this area, these guys are a dime a dozen, but for a Midwestern Yankee, they were exotic and new! I was shocked at how blue their eyes were. The shutter on my camera was definitely getting a work out…

Very cool pictures, I was still reading some of the back posts when you posted these.
You could write a bird guide book with all your posts and pictures.
You have totally inspired me.

Gorgeous Gorgeous Gorgeous Kel... I wonder how they stay so white living out there in the 'muck'..... They are truly beautiful birds. I can 'feel' your excitement.

Do you know what birds are doing when they sprawl out on the deck on a hot summer day??? Looks like they enjoy warming their tummies.. I've seen several birds do it.. Do you know what I'm talking about???? I will email you a picture.

Have a great day tomorrow.
Hugs,
Betsy

THey may be a dime a dozen, but they are beautiful birds and it's always a joy when they come around to visit. I especially love seeing the juveniles when they are maturing.

Gorgeous images, Kelly, as always!

Kelly, I just got caught up on your last three posts. Such beautiful photography, and your sketch--totally amazes me that you could do that in such a short time. I couldn't do it at all. I was at Hilton Head a few years ago but never had any idea there was such a wonderous place to go close by. Thanks for sharing.

Beautiful shots! Beautiful birds! While Ibises don't make their way so far north as Alaska, I have seen them before, and they are definitely an exotic bird. Nice series.

Fantastic photos Kelly. They are such elegant birds, it's a shame they don't come our way very often.

What beautiful birds. I don't know which is more stunning - those eyes, or the pink of their faces and legs! Fantastic. I'm sure you didn't want your time at the refuge to end!

...thanks everyone....I miss this place so much. I think the photos will only get better for the next few days. I will be sad when they are all gone. I guess I'll just have to pack my bags and head back. Now if I only could convince Rick.... :-)
