I stopped by the rookery at noon today and again this evening about 7:15. In that brief time, Mr. and Mrs. First went from footloose and fancy free to the enormous responsibility of incubating eggs.
Mr. and Mrs. First Heron at noon
enjoying the view and the breeze!
...then again at 7:15, the eggs have been laid
and the nesting has begun!
The perfect end to St. Patty's Day!
Cool! Not too long, then, before the little fuzzballs begin to appear.
ReplyDeleteGreat news, looking forward to seeing the story unfold :-)
ReplyDeletePaul.
Wooo Hooo!! I can't wait to follow along and see their babys!
ReplyDeleteHi Kelly, You will have to keep us posted on the family expansion of Mr and Mrs Heron. Phil
ReplyDeleteI still say that these photos are the coolest ever... good job Kelly!
ReplyDeleteHow long on the incubation? Are we there yet?! LOL!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see this unfold - thanks for sharing!
Magnificent.. it is too coll to be able to follow them through their life!!! huge responsibility to raise their chicks! I'm eager to see the first pictures of the chicks.
ReplyDeleteWonderful photos! This is my first visit to your blog. I'll stop by again to see how Mr and Mrs Heron are doing :-)
ReplyDeleteGood luck to 'em, they will need it to beat all the elements!!
ReplyDeleteKeep us posted on the new family Kelly. Great photos.
ReplyDeleteThanks, everyone. I keep hoping the babies hatch before the leaves blossom out. They are in Sycamore trees which leaf out much later than the other trees, so we might be in luck.
ReplyDeleteLaure...they incubate the eggs for about a month. So I will be there a lot when the countdown is over! Thanks for dropping by Deb. I'll drop over to your blog to check it out!
This is great! I love the one of her sitting and him guarding :-) I don't think I have ever seen a heron sit before.
ReplyDeleteHi Mary...I love that photo also. When eggs are there, they are sitting. They trade off also, so the male gets to incubate the eggs too!
