A Frustrated Spideymunk

We have a new visitor at our house...a chipmunk! Last year we saw one running around every now and then, but this year, he hangs around all the time...

...look at that evil little gleam in his eye! I didn't put it there. I was shooting through the kitchen window glass and a screen. Either they are built-in filters, or he's just evil!

...even if he's evil, we'll keep him. He's cute!

Spideymunk...Spideymunk...

...our little chipmunk scrambled all over the wire snowman trying to get a bite of peanut.

...he worked and worked but never really seemed to get anything. The curve of the snowman peanut feeder and the shape of Spideymunk's nose and jaw are not a fit!

While walking past the front door, I noticed our new resident chipmunk sitting on the front porch. Looks like he owns the place. I think he's here to stay.

  2. Heh, heh! I grew up in an area with lots of Chipmunks, then spent 36 years in a place with none. Now I'm back in Chipmunk land and getting used to them all over again. Cute little critters.

  4. Loved seeing your Chipmunk from all the different angles, Kelly. Soon you will have a family of chipmunks and then a community of them, that's what happened here. They have little underground tunnels and entrances everywhere! I love watching them run for cover. They love grapes!

  7. He's a cutie, but let me tell you, they increase in numbers almost like rabbits. We have oddles of them this year, and they haven't even bothered the decks very much. I guess the birds drop enough to keep them fat and happy...at least so far. Good luck!

  9. Hi Kelly, If you have at least 2 Chipmunks around, a male and a female, WELL---soon will will have 22 --and then 222, etc... That's what we have. Would you like some of ours????? ha

  11. I love chipmunks, but I've never seen one in Florida...we have squirrels in abundance though. I'll trade you!

  12. Cute shots! I miss them. We had them in Atlanta but there are none here in central Florida.

  13. Be careful or he'll be moving in to the comfort of the inside of your home!

    Cute little rascals though!

  14. Spideymunk on the porch looks like he's pouting because he couldn't get at those peanuts! Our spideymunk loves the safflower seed we put out (squirrels hate it, chippys LOVE it!), and they also clean off a corn cob in no time flat! We have many, MANY chippys in our woods. They are quite the characters.

  15. ...oh boy! Sounds like I'm in for a slew of them. They are so cute. I love it when they make their fierce chipping sound! We'll have to see if he stays around.

...he does look like he's pouting now that you mention it! I'll have to get some safflower. I used to put safflower out for the cardinals. I need to get some more!

  16. We had to cut down a tree close to our house that had a whole city of squirrel nests in it. We tried to trim the tree back, but the squirrels kept running all over our roof. Too afraid of them chewing through into the house... That had happened to our neighbors. But I love your photos and I love watching them too. We had black small ones in Northern MI.

  17. Oh my, bless you, your first one to stay close...lucky for you. We have unfortunately except for photographing them...hundreds of the little critters. I have spent a bunch on bulbs over the years, sprayed the bulbs and planted them deep enough. The next spring...I have half of what I planted and see MY flowers coming up an acre away... Between the Chipmunks and the Gray Squirrels...ugh...but they sure are cute~

  18. Kelly, if you are fond of chipmunks I could send you some of ours! As soon as I put out some bird food the chipmunks appear, climbing up the porch, falling down from the roof... there's a chipmunk in every nook and crany..

  19. BEWARE Kelly!
He looks a little like Bobb...and we haven't seen him around lately. You may be in for trouble...

  20. He is too cute! It sounds like you'll soon be setting up a little buffet for spideymunk--just so he won't go hungry....
