I have always watched them from the inside, so I never really heard their call--I need to listen for them.Janice Khttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07795812571288753785noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7981450248684029870.post-88584224563133217702014-01-31T06:44:18.314-05:002014-01-31T06:44:18.314-05:00Great post! They didn't have the equipment that we have now or the knowledge about migration etc that we have to day, but the detail about birds and habits etc is quite amazing.<br />The Junco has very subtle colouring and certainly suits its snowy surroundings.Roy Norrishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07054701497328213666noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7981450248684029870.post-37798210131760824662014-01-31T03:14:57.994-05:002014-01-31T03:14:57.994-05:00Delightful photos and xcellent post, Kelly! The m...Delightful photos and xcellent post, Kelly! The mystery of where they go in the summer is of course no mystery now, but interesting to read of the speculation about them. Imagine how surprised the early naturalists would have been to discover these little birds flew so many miles north each year. Of course, I don't call them snowbirds, because they are always long gone from here when the snow flies. Every summer a pair nests under our deck. Of course, the deck is low enough and big enough that we never see the nest, just the comings and goings of mama and papa. I've heard their call likened to a telephone ringing, but I do like the fairy bells description better! I'm looking forward to hearing their jingle in a few months!
